Capture in a keystroke
Hit your shortcut, type or paste, press enter. Multi-line code keeps its shape. Typing something you already saved copies the saved one instead of making a second.
Snippits is a keyboard-driven overlay for Linux. Capture the command you just worked out, find it again while you type, copy it, and get back to work.
Try it: type to search, tab into the list, enter to copy.
Hit your shortcut, type or paste, press enter. Multi-line code keeps its shape. Typing something you already saved copies the saved one instead of making a second.
Fuzzy search over everything you have saved, exact matches first, answered before your next keypress. Tab into the results and the preview shows the whole thing.
Up steps back through the snippets you used most recently; down brings back what you were typing. Enter uses it again.
Edit a snippet and the old one goes to its history, ready to copy or restore. Deleted something by mistake? Undo it, or pick it out of the recently deleted list.
Tag mode suggests the tags you already use, most used first, and keeps them in one form, so docker, Docker and #docker are the same tag.
Sign in and your snippets follow you between machines. It works offline and catches up later; when two machines edit the same snippet, the later edit wins and the other stays in history.
Everything is a key away; the status line always shows the ones that matter right now.
Each account's snippets live in their own encrypted database, with its key in your system keyring. Another account on the same computer sees none of them, and a copy of the file alone is unreadable.
Snippits works without an account and without a network. Signing in only adds sync: your snippets, and how often you've copied each, are stored on our servers, encrypted at rest, so your other machines can fetch them and your account page can show them. No ads, no analytics: the privacy policy says exactly what's kept.
Export everything as JSON or Markdown whenever you like, from the app or with snippits --export. Deleting your account deletes your snippets everywhere.
Every release is built by CI from a tagged commit, reproducibly, and comes with checksums and a record of exactly how it was built.
Wayland or X11. Needs glibc 2.36 or newer and OpenSSL 3, which every current distribution has. Signing in needs a Secret Service keyring (GNOME Keyring, KWallet or KeePassXC).
On Fedora and other dnf systems, add the repository and install; updates then come with sudo dnf upgrade.
# add the Snippits repository, then install
sudo curl -fsSLo /etc/yum.repos.d/snippits.repo https://snippits.cc/repo/rpm/snippits.repo
sudo dnf install snippits Anywhere else, download the archive and SHA256SUMS (beside the button), then:
# check the download, unpack, and put it on your PATH sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS tar -xzf snippits-*-x86_64-linux.tar.gz install -m 755 snippits-*/snippits ~/.local/bin/ # optional: the menu entry and icon cp -r snippits-*/share ~/.local/
